Things To Do in Oceanside

The historic Mission San Luis Rey de Francia is the largest of the 21 California Missions and you can take the scenic San Luis Rey Bike Trail to visit it. This 14 mile paved trail starts at the Oceanside pier and is not open to motorized traffic. Just next door to the mission is Heritage Park, a historic neighborhood with the first general store and other historic buildings. While at the pier you can take surf lessons, grab a bite to eat or just spend a day at the beach. Be sure to stop by the California Surf Museum to find unique surfing artifacts and history on the SoCal culture. And no trip to Oceanside is complete without going on a whale watch, where thousands of species spend their time from December to April. The city also offers two fishing piers and deep sea fishing, making it the perfect family getaway.
