Encinitas is a small and beautiful Southern California beach town in the north end of San Diego County. The town sits right on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and has a great downtown main street area and gorgeous beaches.

Visit Cardiff State Park in Encinitas for another great beach with surfing and swimming opportunities. Every Sunday, Encinitas offers a great farmers market from 10-2 with the Leucadia Farmers Market. You can take an hour drive north to the great city of Temecula, which is the premier wine country destination in Southern California. There are great wineries like Wilson Creek Winery, Leoness Cellars, Wiens Family Cellars, Ponte Winery among dozens of others that are all very enjoyable for touring, tasting and relaxing. Temecula also has a lot of hot air balloon companies where you can go up and see the vineyards and the beautiful Southern California countryside from up above. Another great trip is to take a two-hour drive east to Borrego Springs where you take a scenic desert drive and then enjoy the great small town and at night you can enjoy some of the best stargazing you’ve ever seen, as Borrego Springs is an International Dark Sky Community. Of course, consider going north to Los Angeles or south to San Diego to explore the two largest cities in the area.

There are beautiful beach homes that are constantly rented out in Encinitas. When you plan your trip, look for rentals anywhere along the North Coast Highway, which will ensure that you are close to the beach during your stay. Rentals on Neptune Avenue or 3rd or 4th Street will make the ocean your backyard and are great options as well.

Almost everything in Encinitas can be easily reached on foot, including the beaches, restaurants and shops. Renting bikes is also very popular in Encinitas and a good way to get around. You can take Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner if you’d like to go to Los Angeles or San Diego by train.
