About Coronado
Coronado is a resort city located in San Diego County, California, that offers visitors a charming small-town island community accompanied by beautiful beaches with sand and surf. Coronado is situated across the Big Bay from downtown San Diego and its stunning coastline draws in visitors from around the world, in addition to its old-world mansions, elegant gardens, fine dining options, and world-class shopping.
Things to Do in Coronado
Coronado’s main street is Orange Avenue, which is where all of the shops, restaurants, theaters, galleries, and the Coronado Museum of History & Art are located. On the other side of the island, Coronado’s Ferry Landing has a collection of more shops, art galleries, and restaurants that offer beautiful views of the San Diego skyline. Another must-see is the Victorian-style Hotel del Coronado, a designated National Historic Landmark that was built in 1888 and has a fascinating history. Go shopping at Ferry Landing, which is also where the ferry departs for San Diego. Challenge yourself by going for a walk along the award-winning Coronado Bridge, which crosses over San Diego Bay and is roughly two-miles long. Spend a leisurely afternoon at Coronado Public Library, and catch a performance at Lamb’s Players Theatre, which is located on Orange Avenue and produces five shows a year on an intimate 350-seat stage.

There are three unique communities in Coronado: The Village, The Shores, and The Cays – each with something different to offer. The Village is the main section of the island (from 1st Street on the bay side to the Hotel Del Coronado), and this location is in close proximity to the beach, bay, restaurants and stores. The Shores is made up of ten high-rise condominium towers located just a few hundred yards from the Hotel Del Coronado and offers easy beach access with ocean views. The Cays is another gorgeous community with spacious homes that come with private docks and are very pet-friendly with green parks for dogs. These homes are a 10-minute drive from The Village, one mile from the beach, and are perfect for those who enjoy boating.
Transportation in Coronado
The best way to get around the island is either by renting a bicycle or walking by foot. There is also a low-cost ferry service from the landing across the bay to Seaport Village on the edge of downtown. Another fun way to get around the island is via renting a golf cart, as the island is flat and a little over a mile across.
