Coos Bay Information
About Coos Bay
Coos Bay is a beautiful bay tucked away on the south Oregon coast away from the harsh conditions of the Pacific Ocean. This area has a long history in the shipbuilding and lumber industries and still serves as a major regional hub. Surrounded by lush forests, Coos Bay is also a picturesque place to visit.
Things to Do in Coos Bay
First on your list is a visit to Shore Acres State Park. Between the gardens and the cliffs overlooking the water, you can get lost in a daydream as you wander. Another treasure is the Cape Arago State Park with its beautiful rock formation and breathtaking views. You may also see hoards of sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks and playing the shallows. Opened in 1936, the McCullough Memorial Bridge is a brilliantly designed cantilever bridge that is even recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. It makes for a spectacular photo op! Although a bit smaller than some other boardwalks, the Coos Bay Boardwalk is impressive in its own right. The tourist office is located nearby so you can also learn a bit more about the history of Coos Bay. The Coos Art Museum and History Museum are two must-sees while your visiting. We know you’ll be busy exploring and having a great time, but you can’t forget to stop a rest a bit. And why not enjoy some amazing food while you’re there? We suggest pit stops at the following restaurants: Little Italy, Benetti’s, Blue Heron Bistro, 7 Devil’s Brewing Co., Sharkbites, Café 1297, and EZ Thai Restaurant.

Start in Coos Bay and head north along the Pacific Coast Byway and make your first stop at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Now keep driving Heceta Head Lighthouse and then on to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR. You can drive all the way up to the Washington State border if you like, or turn back at any time. It’s a beautiful drive. If you want a shorter driving journey, then go on the Charleston to Bradon tour route, which is only 41-miles. Your first stop will be Sunset Bay State Park, but maybe you want to do the trip in reserve and end here to watch the sun dip below the water’s edge at the horizon. The adventure is yours to create.
