A cozy little coastal town in Oregon, Oceanside is a tightknit community located off the Three Capes Scenic Route, South of Cape Meares, and North of Netarts. Overlooking a beautiful beach and built along a hillside shaped like an amphitheater, Oceanside offers visitors a stunning and relaxing escape with plenty of activities to enjoy. It is also home to the first National Wildlife Refuge established west of the Mississippi, and provides numerous opportunities for learning about various wildlife in their natural habitat.
Things to Do in Oceanside
One of the must-see things in Oceanside is Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge, which hosts the only site for pupping steller sea lions on the North Coast. In addition, it is also where the largest breeding colony of tufted puffins resides, and during the springtime, visitors come to see more than 100,000 nesting common murres. If you want to enjoy some private beach time all to yourself, go hiking at Bayocean Spit—a stretch of dunes, trees and sand between the Tillamook Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Go and enjoy a tasting of various local salts at Jacobsen Salt Company, then go crabbing and clamming on Netarts Bay. If you’re looking for extra adventure, go camping and hiking at Cape Lookout State Park or go hang gliding from Maxwell Point at the top of Oceanside. Don’t forget to explore Cape Meares Lighthouse and see the Octopus Tree, which is a Sitka Spruce that is shaped like an upside down octopus. Day Trips Near Oceanside
There are numerous fun day trips available for visitors to Oceanside. The city of Portland is just under two hours east of Oceanside, and fun things to do while there include visiting Oregon Zoo, the Portland Japanese Garden and Washington Park—a 400-acre park with a zoo and rose garden. Rockaway Beach is 38 minutes north of Oceanside and is a beautiful beachside community where you can go shopping, enjoy nature, and eat at great restaurants.
