Hot Springs Information
About Hot Springs
Two of the biggest attractions in North Carolina are the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Mountains. In fact, the 500-person town of hot Springs is surrounded by both. In a valley between the two destinations lies a destination in and of itself. Hot Springs is located at the junction of the Appalachian Trail and the French Broad River, just a short drive away from the Tennessee-North Carolina border. The place has been a resort town for almost 200 years, as it has been renowned for its mineral springs and idyllic mountain backdrop. The town is also home to the only hot spring in North Carolina. In 2012, Hot Springs was chosen by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine as the “Best Small Mountain Town” from Georgia to West Virginia. This small town has plenty for visitors to do, or not do, and relaxing here can be just as refreshing as getting in some outdoor time.
Things to do in Hot Springs
Ready for a weekend of treating yourself? Good, because you’ll be able to all that and more in Hot Springs. Start by doing a tour of the Briar Rose Farm, where you can walk around the grounds, pick berries, wander through the numerous gardens, or just enjoy the photo opportunities with the gorgeous backdrop of the mountain ranges. Next, take yourself to the Hot Spring Resort and Spa where the hot spring mineral water is funneled into Jacuzzi hot tubs and will be waiting for you to arrive. For the last part of the day, check out Addison Farms Vineyard, where you can do a wine tasting at this family-owned winery while gazing out at the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you’re more of a physical activity-type during vacations, Hot Springs can be that for you, as well. The town is situated on the banks of the French Board River, which means great river rafting is just minutes away. Try Hot Springs Rafting Company for a personal rafting excursion. If you’re still looking for activities, you could always do a little horseback riding, take a hike at Max Patch, a hilltop with one single tree, or go skeet shooting at Fowler Farms. This is just the beginning of all that this small town has to offer visitors, so make sure you’re able to fit in everything you want to do!
Day Trips from Hot Springs
Asheville is located 45 minutes from Hot Springs. The city has made a name for itself in the craft beer world, boasting the most breweries per capita than any U.S. city. If possible, try to fit in a trip to some of the local ones; you won’t regret it! Asheville also has a good amount of cheese makers, and the Carolina Mountian Cheese Fest showcase some of the best across the state every April. For those history buffs, a trip to the Biltmore is in order while in Asheville. Created by George Vanderbilt in 1895, the tour of this French castle-like estate can easily take 2 hours and includes a tasting and overview of Biltmore’s winery. Ashville’s food scene and craft artisans are another major part of the city, so make sure to leave some time to explore the local food and shops! A trip to the Great Smoky Mountains is easy from Hot Springs. Located just over an hour away, the national park is one of our nation’s natural treasures. Must-sees on your day trip into the park are iconic Clingmans Dome, the highest peak in the Smokey’s, and Cades Cove, a beautiful, luscious valley with an 11-mile loop hiking trail. From waterfalls to mountain peaks, to valleys, this park has it all.
Transportation in Hot Springs
