About Hendersonville

Serving as the county seat of North Carolina’s Henderson County, Hendersonville is nicknamed “The City of Four Seasons.” It is a humble city with a small town charm that managed to preserve its historic Main Street and neighborhoods. Several structures in Hendersonville such as the Smith-Williams-Durham Boarding House, Aloah Hotel, and Clough H. Rice House are officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Visitors with a penchant for wine or beer may be pleased to learn that Hendersonville is home to a number of wineries and breweries. A few notable places include the Burntshirt Vineyards, Saint Paul Mountain Vineyard, and Flat Rock Cider Works Taproom. During Labor Day weekend, the city hosts its annual North Carolina Apple Festival. The hefty street festival includes a parade, live entertainment, carnival rides, and lots of local, freshly picked apples. In fact, apple picking is a popular pastime that can be done at the Justus Orchard, Stepp's Hillcrest Orchard, or Grandad's Apples, which is a family-owned and operated farm. Another prominent attraction at Hendersonville is the Elijah Mountain Gem Mine. From quartz crystals and opal to sapphires and emeralds, the gemstones that are mined can be taken home. There is also a gem cutting service on the premises where precious stones can be turned into jewelry. As for educational centers, the Mineral and Lapidary Museum, Henderson County Heritage Museum, and Team ECCO Ocean Center and Aquarium offer children and families hours of fun.
