The Butterfly House is home to butterflies from all over the world, and you are free to spend as long as you want inside, basking in the beauty of nature. Mackinac Island Day Trips

From Mackinac, you can take plenty of day trips. For some fun sightseeing and enjoying nature, travel south to the Upper Peninsula. There, you can catch the sight of two waterfalls, visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck museum, where you can learn more about Lake Superior and the lives of sailors. 40 minutes away from the island is the Garlyn Zoo, where you can take the kids and view a variety of different North American animals. An hour drive north will have you in Sault Sainte Marie, home of the largest waterway traffic system in the world. Sports fans should drive three hours almost directly south and end up in East Lansing, home of the Michigan State Spartans. You could also head west four hours and end in in Green Bay, where you can visit legendary Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers.

Transportation around Mackinac Island

Although motor vehicles aren’t allowed on the island, there are still many different ways to get around. There are over 1,400 bikes to rent on the island, so be sure to check out some of the rental places around town (including Fat Tire Bikes). These places also offer electronic scooters and wheelchairs as well. To get off the island, Star Line Island Mackinac Ferry offers transportation both to and from the mainland of Michigan.
