Go for a hike amongst nature in the nearby South Yuba River canyon, as well as in Tahoe National Forest and Grouse Ridge Lakes Basin. In the historic downtown area, you can visit some of the local art galleries and studios, all located along Broad Street. Take in a live theatre experience at Off Broadstreet, the Nevada Theatre, and Miners Foundry Cultural Center. Nevada City is also home to two film festivals: the Nevada City Film Festival, and the Wild & Scenic Film Festival—the nation’s premiere environmental and activist film fest. Other points of interest include the National Hotel, which is the oldest operating hotel in California, along with the Sargent House and old Firehouse No.2.

Sacramento is a one-hour drive via the eastbound Interstate 80 and northbound Highway 49. Reno, Nevada is 90 minutes away, and the town of Truckee is 50 minutes away via the westbound I-80 and Highway 20. Lake Tahoe ski areas are just over an hour away from Nevada City, while the Donner Summit skiing area is only 45 minutes away.
