About Pollock Pines

A small town located outside of Sacramento and on the cusp of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Pollock Pines is a popular getaway for many Northern Californians. Not only is it surrounded by snow-capped mountains in the winter, it also boasts a lake encompassed by pine trees and is within driving distance to gold mines and wineries. At one point, the town even housed one of the original Pony Express stations. Jenkinson Lake is located within the town limits and it’s a great place to spend a long summer day. The recreation options at the lake are vast, starting with its 9 miles of equestrian trails and group equestrian camping choices. The lake also boasts two boat launch ramps and offers kayak and paddle board rentals on the weekends. For tubing and wake boarding, use the main part of the lake which starts at the marina. The second part of the lake is intended for swimming, kayaking, and other quiet activities. Fishing is another great option at Jenkinson Lake. Cast your line and catch Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, or Large Mouth Bass. There is a main hiking trail which encircles the lake, and a full hike on it is 8 miles long. Or, take a hike through the Fleming Meadow trail system where you will come across a beautiful waterfall at Hazel Creek Meadow. There are also some great mountain biking trails through the woods and campgrounds. Check out Sly Park Recreation area for camp sites. El Dorado Forest With over 2 million visitors each year, the El Dorado Forest offers hundreds of miles of roads and trails, a handful of lakes and reservoirs, many rivers and streams, and over 80 developed campgrounds and picnic areas. The forest even provides access to many cross country and downhill skiing trails during the winter months. The vegetation in the forest consist of woodland, chaparral, different types of fir trees, and sugar pine trees, along with a handful of other tree species. The forest’s main resource is the 56 inches of rain it receives annually, creating over 600 miles of fishable streams and nearly 12,000 surface acres of lakes and reservoirs. If you’re looking for a place to spend the day, be sure to check out El Dorado Forest.
