Home Information
About Home
At the turn of the 20th century, Home, Washington became a nudist colony and radical anarchist community. Today, Home has a population of just over 1,000 and is composed mostly of beach houses and summer tourists. The town is situated on the Key Peninsula, with the Carr Inlet to its east, nestled in somewhat of a cove. Picturesque and idyllic, it’s no wonder so many tourists come to relax here in the summer.
Things to do in Home
Next door to Home is the town of Lakebay, the bigger town of the two. In Lakebay is where you’ll find Trillium Creek Winery, a locally operated winery giving out tours and tastings in their cottage-style tasting room. Step in the door and you’ll be met by people who are passionate about their product and ready to give you some samples. Take the tour of the vineyard and wine making room for an inside look at how this winery operates. Visiting Home can be the most relaxing vacation if you want it to be. Since most businesses are in Lakebay, Home is a peaceful getaway from nearly all distractions. Home does have a public boat launch, but the town is serenely quiet otherwise. Kick up your feet and relax as you take in the breathtaking scenery of pine trees, shoreline, and sunshine (as long as it’s not raining; this is Washington, after all).
Day Trips from Home
Located in neighboring Longbranch, Joemma Beach State Park is a great place to spend the day. Take the 10-minute drive southwest of Home to enjoy the 122-acre park on the Puget Sound. You’ll be met with 3,000 feet of saltwater shores and plenty of opportunities for fishing and water activities. If you don’t have your own, you can rent a boat from places in the area, as with kayaks, and other water sport equipment. Not a water person? Just bring your towel and catch a nice tan on the shore while you enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife. Across the Carr Inlet in Gig Harbor is where you’ll find some delicious restaurants and shops. From toy stores to art galleries, Gig Harbor is the place to go for more of a day or night on the town. Check out Devoted Kiss Café where you’ll not only get some of the most raved about brunch food in town, but a gorgeous view of the harbor while you eat. For dinner and drinks, try Taste of Peru, another local favorite for its authentic Peruvian dishes.
Transportation in Home
Getting to Home fro out of state is best done by flying into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The hour and a half drive from the airport to Home will require a car, unless your hotel or accommodations provide a shuttle system. While in Home, however, most places can be reach by walking. Explore the natural beauty of the town by foot, then rent a boat or hire one for a ride across the inlet to Gig Harbor and its surrounding areas.
