Things to do in Lexington

Nature enthusiasts can drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway or hike the Woods Creek trail for stunning foliage and mountain views. Route 39 through Goshen Pass is a scenic cycling route, and the James River is perfect for a float. The historic sites in Lexington also have wow-factor, especially if you take a themed tour such as the horse-drawn carriage tour or haunting tales ghost tour. The tour routes bypass Lee Chapel and the Stonewall Jackson House, which also offers daily showings. There are plenty of factoids to pick up at Miller’s House Museum or Lee Chapel and Museum. The junction of Main and Washington Streets has been the busiest spot in town for 200 years. Virginia’s number one beer producer is located in Lexington. It’s called Devils Backbone Outpost Brewery and Tap Room, and crafts the lion’s share of beer for Virginia.

Lexington is located in Rockbridge County, which is particularly popular as a vacation destination for its must-see attractions, restaurants and historical sites. It’s a hidden gem for antiques aficionados, who’ll find over a dozen stores scattered across Rockbridge County. Head from Lexington to Buena Vista for antique glassware, Civil War memorabilia and furniture from the 17th century. As of September 24, 2016, a National Historic Landmark—Natural Bridge—became Natural Bridge State Park, and the 37th jewel among the Virginia State Parks collection. The site is old, but the status of the surrounding area as a state park is new. Rockbridge County has some gorgeous trails, and there’s one that stretches from Lexington to Harrisonburg. It’s called Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail, and is lined with area breweries.
