Provo Information

About Provo

Provo is a land of towering mountains, waterfalls, scenic drives and pleasant communities. Originally called Fort Utah when it was settled in 1849 by 33 Mormon families from Salt Lake City, the city was renamed Provo in 1850 for Étienne Provost, an early French-Canadian trapper who arrived in the region in 1825. Now the third-largest city in Utah, Provo often ranks near the top of national polls as one of the best places to live, work and play because of its accessibility to recreational areas. The Provo area provides easy access to the national parks and canyon country of southern Utah as well as the mountains and ski resorts in the northern part of the state.

Things To Do In Provo

Provo offers a rising downtown, extensive outdoor recreation, a vibrant music scene, and more, making it one of the best vacation destinations year-around. Besides the incredible skiing that Utah has to offer, enjoy other outdoor adventures like hang gliding, world class fly-fishing, and even dinosaur hunting! The museum on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo is the home of one of the largest and most valuable Jurassic collections in the world. It's also one of the few free dinosaur museums in Utah. For more family fun, the Peaks Ice Arena has two Olympic-size ice rinks and three indoor soccer courts. If the weather is warm, your kids will love the Seven Peaks Waterpark, Utah's largest waterpark with 16 waterslides, a lazy river, and a half-pipe tube ride. If you haven't gotten enough of the great outdoors, stop by CLAS Ropes Course where you can go rock climbing, rappelling, zip-lining, camping, canoeing, or cruising!
