About Put-in-Bay
Put-in-Bay is a community of only 138 residents on South Bay Island in northern Ohio. It got its unique name when settlers in the 1700s would “put in” their boats to wait out bad weather on Lake Erie. The village’s role in the War of 1812 makes it a destination of historical significance, and a number of monuments and museums commemorate its military history. Because Put-in-Bay is on an island in Lake Erie, boating, swimming, and relaxing on the beach are all readily available.
