About Lahaina

Located on the island of Maui, the city of Lahaina is the second most visited spot on the island. An eclectic old sea town that has become a tourism hub, Lahaina has lots to offer visitors, from restaurants and shops to fine art galleries and more. It is also the only walkable downtown area on the island with a buzzing nightlife scene.

Things to Do in Lahaina

There are over 40 fine art galleries in Lahaina alone, many of which are located on Front Street (the premiere destination for shopping and restaurants), which features a variety of art pieces from marine life and tropical depictions to loud, colorful works of art. On Friday evenings from 7 to 10pm, the art galleries host “Art Night” and many of them throw individual events as well. Hiking is another popular activity, with so many great places nearby that include ‘Iao Valley State Park and Haleakala Crater, and Experience the world’s best donut on a stick at T.Komoda Store & Bakery in Makawao, and enjoy world-renowned golfing at Kapalua, the home of the PGA SBS Championship. Grab a meal at some of the best restaurants in Lahaina, including Fish Market Maui for fresh seafood, 808 Grindz Cafe for Hawaiian breakfast, and Fleetwood’s on Front Street for fine dining and rooftop views.

Take a drive to Ho’okipa Beach on the North Shore, which is just under an hour away, for front seat views of surfers at Ho’okipa Lookout and to enjoy windsurfing. Located all the way on the southeast side of the island is Oje’o Gulch, approximately a two-and-a-half hour drive, which is where visitors can go for a dip in a strong of more than seven pools and waterfalls that start several miles up the mountain. The Kaanapali area (west side) of Maui is an extremely beautiful, scenic area with lush green mountains and is very close to the town of Lahaina. There are many condos located in Kahana and Napili on the west side, which has much less traffic than the south side in Kihei. Other nearby areas to rent a home or luxury condo on the west side include Honokowai, which is located just north of Kaanapali Beach but not within walking distance to the shopping and restaurants, as well as Kapalua, which is at the far north end of West Maui and gets more rain and wind than the other parts of South and West Maui.

Transportation in Lahaina

Due to its origins as a sea town, not to mention that it is home to the primary harbor in West Maui, Lahaina is where many West Maui fishing, snorkeling and whale watching tours depart. Hop on a cruise ship for a day-trip around the island or to nearby islands for a scenic treat. Go on a guided van tour of the Road to Hana, which features multiple miles of lush rainforest, scenic ocean views, waterfalls and flowers.
