Modesto is a lovely town in California, often visited on the way to Yosemite National Park. The area has lots of gorgeous old buildings to visit, as well as museums and parks. The downtown nightlife is always entertaining, while the neighborhoods show visitors a serene side of California. Things to do in Modesto
The McHenry Mansion from the late 1800s, is a local treasure. Tours are given Sunday through Friday, but the Mansion is closed on Saturdays. The Mansion is the only original Victorian home in Modesto, and has been restored to keep it running. The McHenry Museum across the street features more of Modesto’s history, while the building is from the turn of the last century. Visit the George Lucas Plaza that honors the Modesto native and the creator of Star Wars. A bronze statue, inspired by “American Graffitti" made by the filmmaker, is the centrepiece of the plaza. Downtown Modesto has restaurants, nightlife, and lots of entertainment for an afternoon and evening. There’s even an Art Walk, year round and once a month. Graceada Park neighborhood also has gorgeous old homes for you to stroll around and soak up the local charm.

Yosemite is two hours from Modesto, with lots of visitors driving through Modesto on their way to the National Park. See incredible waterfalls from the Yosemite Falls, to the Sentinel and Ribbon Falls. In the Sierra Nevada Mountains, see all that Yosemite has to offer from the ancient sequoias to the great meadows. Explore hiking trails at White Wolf, Glacier Point Road, and the Yosemite Valley. The National Park is a great place to set up camp, or go fishing or horseback riding — even stargazing!
