About Cathedral City
Cathedral City, known to locals as “Cat City,” is the second largest city in the Coachella Valley of Southern California. Named after rock formations reminiscent of a cathedral, the town was founded in the 1920s as a housing subdivision but only incorporated in 1981. Recognized as one of the “most livable cities” in the country by the United States Conference of Mayors, Cathedral City offers affordable housing and low crime rates, ranked with similarly sized cities in Southern California. The city also boasts lots of family activities and festivals year-round, making it an ideal spot for a vacation in any season. Portions of the land in Cathedral City are within limits of the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation, which also extends into 6,700 acres of Palm Springs. Cathedral City is located in Riverside County, which is filled with hiking trails and parks to explore.
