Joshua Tree is also known for its’ great rock climbing opportunities. The park has about 8,000 different routes to climb that range in difficulty. Day Trips Near Joshua Tree
Los Angeles is about two hours away from Joshua Tree by driving. Walk along the Hollywood Walk of Fame or go shopping on Hollywood Boulevard and at Third Street Promenade. Visit Griffith Observatory for gorgeous views of Los Angeles. You can also go hiking or biking through Griffith Park. Another day trip that is about two hours away is Long Beach, California. Walk through the East Village Arts District and visit the Museum of Latin America Art and/or the Long Beach Museum of Art. While you’re in Long Beach, check out the Aquarium of the Pacific, which has over 11,000 animals. If you don’t have time to walk through all of Long Beach, consider taking a helicopter tour instead with Anthelion Helicopters. Another day trip from Joshua Tree is San Diego, which is a two and a half hour drive from Joshua Tree. San Diego is filled with a variety of attractions, such as the San Diego Zoo, Sea World San Diego, and the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Transportation in Joshua Tree
Note that there is no public transportation that can take you directly to Joshua Tree Park. It therefore may be best to rent a car. It is suggested that you drive down either California Highway 62 or Interstate 10 to get to the park. Typing in the address to your GPS does not always work, and you may end up going down some difficult back roads that could easily be avoided. It is also useful to have a car if you are planning on taking day trips to other parts of California, such as San Diego or Long Beach. To travel in and around the town of Joshua Tree, you can take the MBTA, or the Morongo Basin Transit Authority. The MBTA bus goes through Joshua Tree and nine surrounding towns, including Yucca Valley and Landers.
