The Greers Ferry Lake draws tourists from all over for the water-side delights. The deep, clean Lake is perfect for swimming and boating. It’s is also a good spot for camping with all the rocks and trees. The Little Red River is popular for fishing, as you can find rainbow trout swimming by. The South, Middle, and Devil Forks of the river meet at the Greers Ferry Lake. The nearby Sandy Beach is normally not too crowded, giving you that serene beach experience. However, the whimsical Carboard Boat Races at the beach can draw crowds. Heber Springs isn’t just about the outdoors however. The historic downtown district has traditional squares, antique shops, and even an old theater. Spring Park Downtown has natural mineral springs, and is close to all the restaurants and shops. Day trips from Heber Springs
An hour and a half away from Heber Springs will take you to the famous city of Little Rock. With more of a buzzing feel than Heber Springs, Little Rock is a great day trip. Get cultured at the Arkansas Arts Centre, which happens to be the biggest art museum in the state. You also have to take a look at the Little Rock Central High School, which is known as a historical place of desegregation in the 1950s. Two hours away from Heber Springs will bring you to (the similar sounding) Hot Springs. Hot Springs is a spa town, with 47 hot springs pouring down from the mountains. The springs are rumoured to have healing properties, but find out for yourself at Bathhouse Row. With eight turn-of-the-century bathhouses on Central Avenue, Buckstaff and Quapaw Bathhouses are the most popular. Also, the town is home to the Hot Springs Music Festival in June, and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival in October.
