Tadoussac Information

About Tadoussac

Tadoussac, a village in Quebec, is one of the oldest surviving French settlements in the vast area. The scenic village is hauntingly serene. The locals have a slow way of life, but the city remains vibrant with tourists on pilgrimages to see the many whales. Tadoussac is known for its natural setting and huge whale population.

Things to do in Tadoussac

First things first, whale watching is one of the most popular activities in Tadoussac. The Tadoussac waters are filled with krill, which are the meal of choice for the whales. Go whale watching from the Saguenay-St Lawrence Marine Park, and see large whales as well as belugas. The tours take a few hours, but it’s a thrill to see the whales flip their tails. Going out onto the water can be very chilly, so make sure to wrap up. The Saguenay River is fresh water, and it meets the Saint Lawrence river with its warmer salt water. All kinds of marine life flourish in these waters. See the “Petite Chapelle,” or the little chapel of Tadoussac. This wooden chapel is the oldest of its kind in Canada, and is both small and extremely idyllic.

Day trips from Tadoussac

Saguenay is just an hour and a half away from Tadoussac down the river. The little town is home to the Saguenay Fjord National Park, that you can explore on boat or by foot. The blue waters are home to seals and whales, and are very popular for camping, kayaking, and touring the incredible fjord. Quebec City is a bus journey or a three hour car ride away from Tadoussac. Go from deep nature to one of the most popular cities in Canada. Quebec has a European feel — with a Canadian chill. Old Quebec is the historic neighbourhood, with the upper and lower towns featuring cobbled roads and quaint little houses. The Montmorency Falls give this city its natural feel, as the large waterfall is on the Quebec River. However, the falls are located much further out from the centre of the city.

Tadoussac accommodations

Tadoussac is known for its cute and colourful little wooden houses. The cabins make you feel like you’re at the edge of the world, and the views out onto the water will confirm it. Tripping has a small selection of hotel rooms to keep you warm and relaxed in the typical Canadian snow.

Transportation in Tadoussac

Tadoussac is the perfect place to walk around — bundled up in a coat of course. Walk around the little town, and up onto the sand dunes. There’s a ferry that can take you up to Tadoussac, and a free service that goes frequently across the Sagueney River. Also, bus services go to Tadoussac either from Quebec or Montreal. By land or sea, Tadoussac gives you lots of transportation options.
