Things to do in Minocqua

The possibilities are endless in Minocqua, but the more popular pastimes for regular visitors include world-class fishing, leisure boating and water-skiing. Making the most of the geography is key. Cast a line and see if you can reel in plump perch or tackle aggressive bass. Rent a boat for a day out on the lake, or man a smaller craft such as a raft or kayak. Take skiing and speed to the next level water-skiing across the lake. If you prefer land to water, the network of trails through the area is sure to impress. Bike or hike along the marked paths, or take a stroll along the waterfront. Cruise through the Wildlife Reservoir to see wildlife in their local habitat. Attractions for children include Wildwood Wildlife Park, where visitors can pet porcupine or feed deer; Art Oehmcke Fish Hatchery, with plenty of fish to ogle; and Sheer’s Lumberjack Show, full of log rolling, chopping and climbing demonstrations.

Day trips from Minocqua

The Northwoods area has plenty of lakes as well as hundreds of miles of hiking trails to explore. But that’s not all there is in northern Wisconsin. Take a boat cruise on Lake Superior to see sea caves, historic lighthouses and marine wildlife. If you’re visiting in the winter, check out the snowmobile capital of the world in Eagle River, where you’ll also find the largest inland chain of lakes in the world. Take in the view from Timms Hills, the highest point in the state of Wisconsin, located 54 miles from Minocqua. Tour a re-created Indian Village in Lac du Flambeau, just 15 miles away. Visitors can tour the Cranberry Marshes during the months of July through October by traveling 25 miles to the Manitowish Waters. The waterfalls at Mellen, in Copper Falls State Park, offer spectacular views.
