Green Bay may be famous for its football, but that’s not all this town is known for. It also happens to be a city steeped in history, and is Wisconsin’s oldest settlement. Thanks to an abundance of natural resources, Green Bay is one of the major shipping centers in the country. It is also the smallest city to host an NFL team, and the 13-time National Champion Green Bay Packers are the only NFL team to be owned by the fans. Things to Do in Green Bay

If you’re visiting during the month of August, the Green Bay Packers football team hosts team practices that are open to the public during Packers Training Camp. The Packers Hall of Fame is located inside the Lambeau Field Atrium, and two self-guided walking tours are available: the Oneida Nation Walk of Legends is near Lambeau field and features stories and photos on large granite-engraved monuments, while the Packers Heritage Trail pays homage to the buildings and businesses in Downtown Green Bay that are of historical significance. Go shopping on Broadway Street in downtown Green Bay, as well as on Military Avenue, which is a retail mecca. Bay Beach Amusement Park has 19 amusement rides that include a wooden rollercoaster and Ferris wheel, while Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary houses a 700-acre urban wildlife refuge that is open year-round. Catch a Summer in the Park concert at Whitney Park of Leight Memorial Park, and Green Bay’s CityDeck offers family-friendly entertainment every Friday from June through August. Day Trips Near Green Bay

There are many great day trips around and near Green Bay. Door County is a popular to visit because of its long shoreline and many parks, and is less than an hour north of Green Bay. If you’re up for a longer drive, the city of Milwaukee is just under two hours south and offers a scenic route through the rolling farmlands and small towns of the eastern part of Wisconsin. Madison, which is the capital of Wisconsin, is two-and-a-half hours south of Green Bay and is home to the sprawling University of Wisconsin, as well as a vibrant music scene.
