Moab Information

About Moab

Located in eastern Utah with a population of just a little over 5,000, Moab draws in thousands of visitors each year for the nearby Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The city sits on the Colorado Plateau and is just 18 miles from the Colorado border. In 2009, Sunset Magazine listed Moab as one of the “20 best small towns in the west”. Famous for its outdoor adventure activities, Moab is definitely an exciting place to visit!

Things to Do in Moab

If you’ve come to Moab to sit and enjoy the red rock scenery, you might be missing out on some of the best parts of it. Hiking and biking trails flood Moab, as there are hundreds of miles of biking trails and thousands of square miles of hiking trails in both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The list doesn’t end there. Moab is an international destination for base jumping, rock climbing, and canyoning. The world record for slacking and highling was performed in Moab, so be sure to put on your adventure hat when visiting here. White Rim Road is a local and tourist favorite. The road runs a little over 70 miles and is an unpaved route that was originally constructed to provide access to individuals wanting to mine uranium deposits for use in weapons during the Cold War. Today, it provides adventure-seekers a place to ride 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, and other off-road vehicles. Excellent views of the Green River can be seen from the trail, but don’t forget to bring extra water because there are no potable water stops on the 70-mile stretch.

Day Trips From Moab

For a day trip that will leave you in awe of your natural surroundings, consider booking a rafting tour of the Colorado River. Many companies offer half or full-day tours, so you can decide which one suits your needs best. Expect to see the famous vertical canyons, a close-up view of the red rocks, and a peacefully beautiful view of the Colorado River. Don’t get too comfortable, though, the white water rapids will make for an adventurous ride.

Transportation in Moab

Moab can be a bit intimidating to reach if you’re not in driving distance. However, the city is best reached via a flight into Salt Lake City, Utah and a connecting flight to nearby Grand Junction Regional Airport. From there, a rental car is the most efficient way to get into Moab, since it’s about an hour and forty-five minute drive. While in Moab, bike rentals are a popular mode of transportation. Depending on your destinations while in Moab, jeeps and four-wheelers are also a great way to see parts of the red rocks and national parks that are not accessed by hikers. Otherwise, throw on your walking shoes and take a hike through the natural beauty surrounding Moab.

Moab Accommodations

With over 1,000 rentals in and around Moab, Tripping.com has you covered. For the biking enthusiasts, choose a vacation rental close to the trails for easy access. If you’re looking to get off the grid, Tripping.com has rentals that are more remote and great places to ride off-road vehicles and mountain bikes. Downtown Moab’s Main Street is your place for food and shopping. With a handful of different ethnic restaurants and shops ranging from rock climbing to jewelry, Main Street is the place to go after a day on the river or in the canyons. Sweet Cravings Bakery and Bistro is a crowd pleaser. With their made-from-scratch meals and refreshing homemade cream sodas, this place will revitalize you after a day in the sun.
