Located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, Douglas Lake is encircled by rolling hills and scenic beauty. It’s both a short, 45-minute drive to Knoxville and a one-hour drive to the Smoky Mountain National Park, making it an ideal location for a vacation with variety. Stretching over 40-miles, Douglas Lake is a great place for some summer water activities. Bring your boat or rent one from Mountain Harbor Inn, Douglas Lake Marina, Mountain Cove Marina, or H2o Sports. You can also rent jet skis and other watercraft and equipment from these places if you aren’t bringing along your own. Kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding are all options at this beautiful lake, so make sure to take advantage of all the activities you can while you’re here! If you’re an avid fisher, you’ll love Douglas Lake. It is known as one of the top 10 lakes in the nation for Large Mouth Bass and top five in the nation for Crappie. The best times to go are in the spring and fall. Douglas Lake is fed by the French Broad River and Nolichucky River, so there’s a good chance you’ll also find White Bass, Sauger, Striped Bass, Red Horse, and many other varieties of fish. If you’re looking for a few modern accommodations, head to the marinas and docks surrounding the lake. Indian Creek Boat Dock offers a restaurant and snack bar and is a popular fishing spot, while Gator Point Dock offers boat slips and grocery items. The best place to go to be social during your vacation is The Point Marina. This place offers all the amenities of a marina, as well as a full service restaurant, WiFi access, and is a great place to meet other visitors to the area.
Day Trips from Douglas Lake

Check out the Festival of Nations in March or the Barbeque and Bluegrass Festival at the end of May. In addition, Dollywood boasts Tennessee’s largest waterpark, Splash Country. The kids will hit the ground running and explore the 35 acres of award-winning waterslides and attractions. Stay overnight at their on-site resort, or just go for the day and head back to Douglas Lake.
