Medford Information
About Medford
Medford’s humble beginnings go back to 1885 when the city was officially incorporated after the railroad came to Southern Oregon. Today, you can still walk through downtown Medford and see original buildings and streets that have since been revitalized and turned into clothing shops, restaurants, and antique stores. Spend a day rafting on Rogue River or taking in the breathtaking view from atop Upper and Lower Table Rock. You’ll have plenty of fun activities to keep you busy during your stay in Medford.
Things to do in Medford
White water rafting on the Rogue River is the perfect way to kick off your vacation. Momentum River Expeditions offers half, full, and multiple day trips with a tour guide to help you venture through the waters safely. Rogue Rafting Company also offers similar trips, and is located in nearby Gold Hill. Experience the Rogue River from inside a raft as you paddle through the rapids with your family. Upper and Lower Table Rock are two places you must visit while in Medford. These volcanic plateaus are located just north of Medford and were created some seven million years ago. They were shaped by erosion and stand at about 800 feet tall. Here, you’ll find over 70 different species of animals, over 340 plant species, and more than 200 types of wildflowers. Try the easy, 2.8-mile hike to Upper Table Rock that has an elevation gain of 720 feet. The hike to Lower Table Rock is moderate and is almost twice as long as the hike to Upper Table Rock. Come in the spring and you will be treated to the vibrant colors of the blooming wildflowers. The vistas from some parts of these cliffs are incredible, and give hikers a view of the Rogue River, the Cascades, and the rim of Crater Lake.
