Grand Lake Information
About Grand Lake
Officially named Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, this body of water is also referred to as Grand Lake by the locals. It is located in the Ozark Mountain Range’s foothills in the northeastern region of the state of Oklahoma. The lake boasts the Pensacola Dam, a dam designed with multiple arches and houses a hydroelectric power generator. Grand Lake draws outdoors enthusiasts from around the country like sailboaters as well as amateur and professional fishermen because of its large bass population.
Things to do in Grand Lake
A significant portion of the area around Grand Lake is rural. Consequently, there are copious small towns, villages, and communities with a friendly atmosphere. In Mayes County you can visit the town of Disney (which does not have any relation to the brand name). Disney is nestled on the the south end of Grand Lake’s shore. To travel into and out of the town, the only way to do so is via Oklahoma State Highway 28. Disney has a small town charm with its drive-ins, post office, gift and convenience shops, and the historic Dam Hotel and Paula's Boutique. Near to the lake, Delaware County’s Grove, Oklahoma proves to be a slightly larger community than Disney. The city has strong ties to Native American history since it used to be part of Cherokee land. Attractions at Grove are the Grand Lake Casino, Lendonwood Gardens, and eminent fishing events and competitions.
