Bear Lake Information
About Bear Lake
Bear and the surrounding area has gone through many iterations in its vivid history. Before people started settling the area in 1863, it was heavily forested and only had one walking path. Farm land was quickly established as well as a booming lumber industry. Agriculture is still strong in the area in addition to Bear Lake being a popular tourist destination. Also nearby is the Pere Marquette State Forest. This gorgeous forest encompasses land in Michigan's beautiful lower peninsula on the western side of the state. There are several trails encompassing the forest which are all perfect for hiking, biking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. The North Country Scenic Trail passes through the Pere Marquette State Forest on its 4600 mile way from New York to North Dakota, and is definitely not to be missed.
