Waialua Information

About Waialua

In the northwestern part of Oahu, just south of Haleiwa, is Waialua—a cute vintage Hawaiian town that is considered part of the famous North Shore. Less crowded than its other neighboring towns, Waialua is an amazing hidden gem that is home to the historic Waialua Old Sugar Mill and other unique attractions that are guaranteed to entertain and educate in Hawaiian culture.

Things to Do in Waialua

Stop by the Old Sugar Mill, which is also the site of the Waialua Coffee and Chocolate Mill. They offer visitors tours of the coffee mill, samples of freshly roasted coffee, and they also offer other locally made products like papaya seed salad dressing and natural shave ice. Satisfy your sweet tooth by paying a visit to Paalaa Kai Bakery, a local hotspot that makes everything from chocolate custard treats and snow puffies to a jar of coconut-chocolate peanut butter. Go for a drive or a stroll around the Waialua High School area and see all of the beautiful sunflower fields—call one of the commercially-owned fields in the area and set up a free viewing. Go for a field trip at the North Shore Soap Factory, where you can observe workers creating handcrafted soaps and even pick up a few to take home in the gift shop. Their fun list of tropical scents include mango, coconut, kukui and plumeria. Stop by Island X Hawaii to sample some of their homemade Hawaiian shave ice, which features a fresh syrup using the owner’s secret recipe. Lie out and catch some sun at Mokuleia Beach Park, or sign up for a horseback riding tour with Oahu horseback rides and catch a beautiful North Shore sunset. Don’t forget to check out the North Shore Farmer’s Market, which takes place every Saturday at 8 a.m. in the Sunset Beach Elementary School parking lot.
