Located on the big island of Hawaii, Pahoa is a small town in the district of Puna on the eastern side of the island, south of Hilo. Things to Do in Pahoa
A must-see during your trip to Pahoa is the Pahoa Farmer’s Market, which offers food, crafts, plants and other goods. Another popular spot to visit is the famous Princess Liliuokalani Gardens, which is a 30-acre park named after Hawaii’s last reigning monarch that includes beautiful Japanese gardens, perfect for an afternoon stroll. Relax and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul at the Kalani Spa, which is located at Kalani Retreat Center and offers yoga, massage, and Hawaiian culture classes. Spend time outdoors hiking at Black Sand Beach, enjoying the lava heated pool at Ahalanui Hot Pond, checking out Lava Tree State Monument, and going snorkeling at Wai’opae Marine Sanctuary, which has tide pools, coral reefs and many varieties of fish.
Day Trips Near Pahoa
The town of Keauhou, which is located on the island’s west side, is known for its quiet beaches that offer a variety of activities, ranging from swimming and boating to fishing and scuba diving. At just over two hours away by car, it makes for a fun day trip with some scenic driving. The historic town of Hilo is only 35 minutes away and is home to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Botanical Garden, and Wailuku State Park, to name a few. If you’re interested in visiting other islands, Oahu is just 30 minutes by plane; Maui is 23 minutes by plane; and Kauai is 30 minutes by plane.
