Things to do in Red Feather Lakes
Red Feather Lakes is on the breathtaking Roosevelt National Forest, where you can explore some of the best hiking trails. Visit the Colorado Continental Divide, where you can go horseback riding and create some incredible memories. Beaver Meadows Stables can get you on your horse, where you can go riding in the wilderness — a great family activity. The Shambhala Mountain Centre is a beautiful and peaceful Buddhist temple in Colorado (of all places). Learn a lot about the temple and spirituality, while you’re out in nature — an enlightening day trip. Climb the Deadman’s Lookout also to get incredible views, though not advised for anyone afraid of heights! The Lookout is open most of the year, but not in winter when the steps are too icy.
Day trips from Red Feather Lakes
Take a day trip to Cache La Poudre River, which you can follow as long as you like. Depending on how far along you want to go, your travel time could be anywhere from one to two hours away. The river goes through the Rocky Mountain National Park, and rounds off at Fort Collins. The river is the best spot for whitewater rafting, kayaking, and fishing. Fort Collins is a college city about an hour away from Red Feather Lakes. Get back to a little of the cosmopolitan at the home of Colorado State University, and walk around the buzzing college town. Visit the Gardens on Spring Creek while you’re there, a botanical garden full of flowers, fruits, herbs, and even rocks. The Gardens turn horticulture into art, and are closed every Sunday.
