About Wrightwood
In the heart of Southern California lies Wrightwood, a place that may be familiar to snow bunnies in the area. That’s because Wrightwood is home to Mountain High, one of the most accessible skiing and snowboarding resorts to the greater Los Angeles area. Not only that, Wrightwood offers hiking trails, local watering holes after your trip down the mountain, and the natural beauty of the Angeles National Forest. Things to do in Wrightwood
The most obvious attraction to visit when you’re in Wrightwood is Mountain High. Located just 90 miles from downtown Los Angeles, this place draws some of the most talented skiers and snowboarders to its trails. Don’t worry, there are plenty of beginner runs, too. If you’re a beginner, check out the West Resort area. Here, you’ll find wide-open space for you to practice your skills. Intermediate and expert riders will also find some terrain parks in the West Resort area. The Children’s Sports Center is also located here, as are the resort’s Bullwheel Bar and Grill and the entertainment area of the park. The resort even offers snow tubing for those who aren’t interested in strapping themselves to skis or snowboards but still want to enjoy the outdoors. The East Resort area is where you’ll find the greatest vertical in SoCal and the longest speed bump run in the region. In addition, there’s 20 acres of beginner terrain in the East Resort. In Mountain High North, there are 70 more acres of beginner terrain and the tubing park which features 10 lanes for maximum tubing fun. Hikers will love the access to trails in Wrightwood. For a moderate, four-mile hike, check out Blue Ridge Trail. You’ll gain 1,000 feet in elevation and the forested hike includes wildflowers in the spring and some foliage in the fall. An easier, one-mile hike is the Lightning Ridge Nature Trail, a loop trail that serves as a good warm up or easy stroll. Finally, the truly unique Mt. Baden-Powell Trail offers hikers incredible views of the ocean, mountains and desert. You’ll gain 2,000 feet in elevation as you hike this eight-mile trail, and wildflowers and forests will surround you on your way. Stop in at the Grassy Hollow Visitors Center (only open on weekends) and learn about the flora and fauna in the area. It’s located adjacent to the Pacific Crest Trail and provides some informative exhibits about the nature in the Angeles National Forest. You can also join in on one of the nature center-led hikes and snowshoeing trips.
