Stockholm Information

About Stockholm

Visit Stockholm, the Scandinavian treasure, and one of the most popular nordic cities. With 14 islands accessible by 57 bridges, Stockholm’s culture connects fashion, simplicity, and of course — the very blonde. Steeped in viking and medieval history, the modern city builds on its past. Stockholm is a beautiful and educational experience that you and your whole family will be thrilled by. Discover boats, blondes, and the neighbouring Baltic.

Things to do in Stockholm

With more than just ABBA and Ikea, Stockholm has many must-see attractions. Take a tour of the series of canals all over the city, or do it on foot! The canals are Sweden’s pride, and are accessible by walking through the city. The old town of Gamla Stan is one of the most historic in Europe, with its cobblestones and architecture creating a time-capsule. Stortorget is the main square in old town, where you can get a taste of Sweden at the shops and restaurants. Old town is right next to the modern and avant-garde downtown city. In Gamla Stan, you can find the medieval Stockholm Cathedral from the 13th century. In the cathedral, you can’t miss the statue of St George battling the dragon. Nearby, take a look at the Royal Palace of Stockholm to watch the changing of the guards. Vasamuseet is home of the colossal warship, Vasa, from 1628. With a bookshop, restaurant, and half hour english film, this viking ship is awe-inspiring. Take a relaxing trip to Djurgarden — a paradise within the city. With museums (such as Vasa), strolls, and scenery, the park is heavenly. You can take a ferry to this small island, and ride the antique tram while you’re there!

Day trips from Stockholm

Enjoy the rest of Sweden’s rich culture during your stay in its centre of Stockholm. Visit the Viking Settlement of Birch Islands (Björkö), one of Sweden’s first towns from the 8th century. See ancient remains, and take a boat tour from city hall to the island. Take a three hour boat trip on Lake Mälaren (from May-September) to post-card perfect Mariefred. The Gripsholm castle in Mariefred looms above the town and its old wooden houses. Explore the building, and see famous Swedish portraits from the old to the contemporary. A twenty five minute train ride southeast of Stockholm will get you to the small seaside town of Saltsjöbaden. Walk around, or visit the yacht marina at the seaside resort. Another way to keep close to the water is at Lake Mälaren. The lake begins west of Stockholm, and meanders all the way to the Baltic.

Stockholm accommodations

Tripping can help you plan your dream Scandinavian stay, with over a thousand stylish homes for you to chose from. Hotels and rentals can be booked via Tripping at great prices. Book in the city centre (Innerstaden) to be a part of the buzzing atmosphere. Ostermalm, Vasastaden, Norrmalm, Kungsholmen, and Sodermalm are all beautiful areas in the city, built around 1850. The archipelago is popular for weekend and vacation houses in the summer.

Transportation in Stockholm

With buses, historic trams, and a metro system, the public transportation in Stockholm is trusty and convenient. The metro’s decorated stations make it a kind of travelling art gallery. Walking around the city, Stockholm’s bridges and canals are the best way to take in the culture — and get to nearby spots. The Stockholm Arlanda Airport or the Bromma Stockholm Airport will probably be your first sight of the city!
