Cape Town Information

About Cape Town

Where is Cape Town? With its Mediterranean climate, Cape Town, South Africa is quite likely Africa's most popular tourist hotspot. Famous for its flora and fauna, the city’s protected biodiversity areas are World Heritage Sites with multiple endemic species that don’t exist in any parts of the world. Prominent landmarks include Table Mountain with its breathtaking views and Cape of Good Hope with its scenic natural reserve. Additionally Cape Town has also been host to many significant sports event including several of the matches of the FIFA 2010 World Cup.

Cape Town Neighborhoods

The City Bowl is near the waterfront and has many residential suburbs primarily due to its great views and easy access to all major entertainment in the area. Bo-Kaap, dotted with pastel and bold colored historic houses, has a unique character of its own. Of the Southern Suburbs, most noteworthy are Woodstock, Observatory, and Constantia. The Waterfront and Atlantic Seaboard neighborhoods both provide the ideal setting for those looking for great views or a beach holiday. These areas all offer a variety of charming restaurants and cocktail bars to those looking to wind down in the evening. If you’re looking to get away from city, False Bay is a great option. Kalk Bay in particular has a gorgeous sunrise. The Southern Peninsula & Cape Point are also away from the city and famous for Cape Point Nature Reserve and white sandy beaches. No Cape Town experience is complete without a visit to the Cape Flats & Winelands (45 min from Cape Town) suburbs particularly on account of their historical significance and great wine, respectively.

Things to Do in Cape Town

Whether you’re taking a cable car up Table Mountain or diving into shark-infested waters of Cape Town, there’s never a dearth of unique experiences to be had here. And if the proximity to sharks is a bit much, opt for the more harmless option of the Two Oceans Aquarium. Try snorkeling in the calm waters of Smitswinkelbaai. Watch a colony of penguins at Boulder’s Beach or experience Cape Town’s jazz tradition found in every part of the city. Make a trip to Robben Island, once a prison for Nelson Mandela, and now a museum. Shop at the Victoria and Albert Waterfront or look for mementos in the Pan African Market and Greenmarket Square. Take a walk down Government Avenue to access to Adderley Street, the National Gallery, the Iziko Museum and Planetarium. Order fresh tuna, some of the worlds finest or sip on Pink Palace’s delicious afternoon tea. And once you’re done sight-seeing for the day, Long Street is where you want to party – don’t forget to take a sip of their famous ‘Klippies and coke!’

Cape Town Accommodations

Cape Town International Airport is the best way to get to Cape Town. Once here, you’ll want to stay in a gorgeous Cape Town vacation rental. But as is true with most tourist hotspots, you’re more likely to get a better deal if you rent houses in Cape Town than stay in a pricey hotel. If you’re looking for a house for rent in the Southern Peninsula or near Cape Point, you may be further away from city attractions. City Bowl rentals are a great way to be close to all city entertainment while enjoying excellent views of the city and harbor. Villa rentals are also a popular option for those seeking privacy and luxury.
