Things to do in Port Elgin
The Port Elgin Main Beach is one of the most popular attractions of the area. Lay out on the long stretch of sand, and take the Steam Train right from the beach. Gobles Grove Beach is quiet and peaceful, with miles of sand and ocean to enjoy. The Port Elgin Flea Market is held on the waterfront every Wednesday during the summer from 9am-4pm. Go from the beach to the market, and end your day at the many local restaurants. There are Shell Concerts on Sunday nights during the summer in Saugeen Shores. The concerts are held at the main beach gazebo, and feature different bands performing live music. The local cycling trails give you beach views, as well as a load of fresh air and exercise. The Gore Drain Trail or the Rotary Way Trail are popular. Go swimming at the beaches you pass along the way!
Day trips from Port Elgin
Port Elgin is close-by to some must-see vacation spots. Tobermory, the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula is an hour and a half away from Port Elgin. Visit the Grotto, a cave carved out by the waves of Georgian Bay. With an underwater tunnel, the Grotto is one of Tobermory’s main attractions. Take a ferry to Flowerpot Island to see the wondrous “flowerpot” pillars. Explore underwater shipwrecks up close, or see them from above on a boat cruise. Half an hour drive from Port Elgin will take you to Sauble Beach, a resort town with unbelievable beaches. Sauble Beach has seven miles of sand, and is therefore one of the longest freshwater beaches in the world.
