About Lake Simcoe
Lake Simcoe is the fourth largest lake located in Southern Ontario, Canada. Bordered by Simcoe County, Lake Simcoe also contains a large island, Georgina. The lake is dotted with several smaller islands including Thorah Island, Strawberry Island, Snake Island, and Fox Island. A popular resort and summer area, the lake is surrounded with summer cottages and beaches, and has lots of recreational activity from its visitors, including ice fishing competitions in the winter and jet skiing and other boat activities in the summer.
Things to Do in Lake Simcoe
Less than an hour north of Toronto, Simcoe County where Lake Simcoe is located has the longest freshwater beach in the world and is known for having some of the best boating, fishing, and skiing in all of Ontario. The Georgina Arts Centre houses renowned artwork as well as work by local artists, while Sibbald Point Provincial Park has a large beach, trails, a museum, picnic and camping grounds. Another important point of interest is St. George’s Church and Historical Cemetery, which is the resting place of early settlers and noted Canadian authors in a beautiful lakeside setting. Rail Yard Wake Park offers cable wakeboarding opportunities from May to September, and the Georgina Pioneer Village and Museum gives visitors the opportunity to step back in time and learn a history lesson about the past. If you’re looking to go fishing, Lake Simcoe is stocked with trout, whitefish, bass, and yellow perch. Ice fishing is a popular winter activity, but people can go fishing year-round at Lake Simcoe. There are several parks, including Lake Simcoe Conservation Areas, that are designed for outdoor recreation activities including picnics, hiking, swimming, camping, and snowmobiling.
