Things to Do in Hamilton

The thing that Hamilton is known best for is its waterfalls. Some of its most famous ones to visit include Albion Falls, Webster’s Falls, Devil’s Punch Bowl (which is a staggering 121 feet high), Princess Falls, and Ancaster Heights Falls. If you happen to be visiting Hamilton towards the end of September, you won’t want to miss the Roots en Route Arts Festival—an annual celebration that showcases a variety of performances by artists and works in music, film, dance, and more. Hamilton is big on the arts, with numerous galleries, theatres, and music venues to choose from. Be sure to visit AGH Design Annex, a creativity lab where experimental exhibitions are on display along with intimate performances. The Anchor Bar is a great place to catch local live music and is located inside Jackson Square in downtown Hamilton; it is also the home of the original buffalo chicken wing. The Brott Music Festival is the largest non-profit orchestral music festival in Canada with a full-time, professional residence orchestra. Go for a stroll in Battlefield Park in Stoney Creek, which is home to a restored 1920s garden with stunning, tiered garden ways and walkways. Take the entire family to Adventure Village, which features an 18-hole miniature golf course, nine batting cages, rock climbing, gemstone mining, bumper cars, and an arcade. You can also see over 1,000 exotic birds and animals that large free in the large Game Reserved of African Lion Safari on Cooper Road.

Day Trips Near Hamilton

Toronto is only 45 minutes away from Hamilton by car, making it an easy drive along Highway 403. Buffalo, New York is 63 miles away from Hamilton by car, making it another great day trip. Niagara Falls is just under an hour away from Hamilton and makes for a stunning trip by car. If you’re looking to explore more of Canada, the city of Ottawa is four and a half hours north east by car, and Montreal is another two hours east of Ottawa.

Ancaster is one of the more affluent parts of town that located on the Niagara Escarpment and has many beautiful, spacious homes with large lawns and yards. Other nice areas to stay where you can book a single family home include Dundas—which has tree-lined streets and 19th century buildings; and Flamborough—another large suburban community.

Transportation in Hamilton

Hamilton has various forms of transportation available to the public, making it easy and convenient to get around. Hamilton has bus connections that link to cities in southern Ontario and western New York. In the city, the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) provides transportation around the lower city and partial service on the mountain. The GO Train and GO Bus Services make regular trips from Toronto Union Station to Hamilton. There are also many rental car companies available, as well as taxi cab services.
