Homestays offer great value accommodation options
Homestays are a great value accommodation option for all types of travellers. Whether you're on a city break, sun holiday or a student who needs long-term accommodation, homestays offer quality and value for money. Staying with a local in their home makes a homestay more than simply accommodation. A homestay is an experience.
Homestays range from family-friendly bedrooms such as Pedro's home in the Algarve (below) for just €45 per room per night. Pedro and his wife live with their teenage children in a bright and colourful home that is close to the airport but only 5km from the centre of Faro. Their home has plenty of garden space for you to sit out and relax in while there are plenty of nearby restaurants serving traditional Portuguese food for you to try out.
For those looking for a city break, homestays like Gavin's in south Dublin are a great way to see the city. Gavin lives in the suburb of Ranelagh, a trendy neighbourhood within walking distance of the city centre. His home is a beautifully restored red-brick Victorian terrace with a light, comtemporary feel that he share with his beautiful labrador Lucy. Guests can relax in his secluded garden, take walks along the nearby Grand Canal or just sit back and enjoy the cozy, original fireplace in their guest bedroom. Gavin's passion for food means that he will be more than happy to recommend some nearby restaurants and you'll be spoilt for choice in Ranelagh.
At the opposite end of the spectrum we have tropical getaways like Luz's home in Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean coast of Mexico. Located only a couple of blocks from the beach, her condo is a homestay in the lap of luxury but without an over the top price tag. Her home comes with its own pool and jacuzzi (pictured below) for you to make use of. Luz also has a cot available for guests with small children as well as bikes for her guests to borrow during their stay.
If sunshine is not what your after but you still want to feel pampered during your holiday, the luxury queen-sized bed at Catherine's homestay (pictured below and in main image) from €77 per night may be what you're after. Situated next to the ski slopes of Québec, Catherine's home is furnished in keeping with their stunning natural surroundings. She's happy to arrange outdoor excursions for you to make the most of the stunning Canadian scenery, from dog sledding and skiing in winter to fishing or hiking in the summer. Or failing that, you are equally welcome to just chill out in a hammock with a good book and make the most of the tranquility.
Prices on Homestay.com can be per night, per week or per month depending on the length of your stay, with many of our hosts offer discounts for long-term stays and solo travelers. Extra amenities such as cots, bicycles or kitchen and laundry facilities are often available to guests as required and our secure messaging system means that you can ask for these or any other questions you may have both before and after your booking is made.
