Keuka Lake is one of the Finger Lakes in New York, standing out from the others for its “Y” shape. With miles of shoreline, the water is shallow, warm, and perfect for swimming. Spend your days on the lake trying out water sports, or relaxing and enjoying the scenery. The local vineyards are picture-perfect, while you can find all kinds of natural gems on hikes and in the nearby towns.
Things to do in Keuka Lake
Keuka Lake is a great place to stay active. Get out onto the water to fish, and find all different kinds of trout (from rainbow to brown) in the lake. The lake is also great for biking, as the circuit around the shoreline is a popular route. Try out all kinds of water sports like canoeing or kayaking, there are lots of local boat rentals nearby. For hiking, get onto the Keuka Lake Outlet Trail, where you can venture across abandoned railroads, old mills, and waterfalls. The Keuka Lake Wine Trail takes you on a tour of some fabulous vineyards, from Heron Hill to Keuka Springs and Hunt Country Vineyards. Keuka Lake also has a lot of lakefront restaurants where you can watch the sunset while you eat. Penn Yan, Branchport, and Hammondsport are towns that surround the lake, where you can explore the local culture. In Hammondsport, the Glen H. Curtis Museum is a local treasure, with vintage airplanes, motorcycles and boats for you to admire.
Day trips from Keuka Lake
Visit any number of the other Finger Lakes, of which there are eleven, from Otisco to Conesus. You can also visit Seneca Falls, the nearby birthplace of the women’s suffrage movement. In Seneca, visit the Women’s Rights National Historic Park, and see the home of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Rochester is about an hour drive away from the Finger Lakes also, where you can get more of a city vibe for nightlife. Head out to some restaurants in Rochester, or enjoy the local jazz nights. Ithaca is less than an hour away also, and home to Cornell University.
