About Fort Myers
Fort Myers, a town on Florida’s Gulf Coast, is home to 65,000 residents. It originated as a fort in the American Indian War and played a part in the Civil War as well. After its incorporation in 1885, Fort Myers was improved by the construction of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. With an average low temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit, Fort Myers is a wonderful destination for warm weather, beautiful beaches, and fun experiences. If you are a shell collector, you’re in luck! Things to do in Fort Myers
Take a kayak tour of the surrounding islands during your visit to Fort Myers. Guided tours take guests out at sunset or moonlight, and you are likely to see turtles, dolphins, manatees, or other wildlife. There are other boat tours available as well, including sailboat tours and fishing charters. History enthusiasts can’t miss touring the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. The property of these famous inventors has been turned into a museum. Visitors can choose to tour the complete estate, the gardens, the laboratory, and more. This can become a daylong activity, as the estate also offers river cruises and dinner. The Fort Myers River District offers many fun activities. On the first Friday of each month, the street transforms into an art walk—and does the same for the third Friday to celebrate local musicians. Walk or bike down palm tree-lined streets and sample the food, and be sure to look at the historic buildings.
