Take a trip to the gorgeous Shenandoah Valley, in Luray, Virginia. Luray is home to the incredible Luray Caverns, drawing most of the town’s tourism. You’ve got to see these unique caves to believe it, as the intricate stalactite and stalagmite formations are out of this world. The Garden Maze at Luray Caverns increases the feel of mystery, as you get lost in the vast labyrinth. The Shenandoah National Park meet the Appalachian Trail, and rests by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Take the Stony Man Mountain Hike, as this short trail has incredible views. Sit on top of the rocks and look out at the expansive nature. The Luray Downtown Historic District has shops, restaurants, and even an arts scene in the busy center.

Day trips from Luray

About two hours away from Luray will get you to Washington D.C. Get into the big city, our nation’s capital, for a change of pace. See the iconic Whitehouse and the National Mall for all kinds of monuments and memorials. Spot the tall and distinctive Washington Monument while you’re there. Mix history with the modern, as D.C. has an incredible amount of restaurants and bars for you to explore in the evenings. An hour and a half away from Luray is Charlottesville, Virginia. Charlottesville is known for having been home to three presidents: Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe. Visit the historic University of Virginia, some of which was designed by Jefferson himself. Monticello was Jefferson’s manor, and is very close to downtown. Take a guided tour of the beautiful house and grounds. Although the tour can be pricey, it’s long and can really be worth it.
