Things to Do in Stowe

One of the most famous attractions in Stowe is Mount Mansfield, the highest mountain in Vermont, which offers stunning views and hiking opportunities. Stowe Mountain Resort is a ski resort that includes Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak, and offers various restaurants and recreational activities. Take in a performance at Hyde Park Opera House, and then go see a wide range of regional artists’ work on display at the Green Mountain Fine Art Gallery, which specializes in watercolors, oil paintings, pastels, prints, ceramics, and sculpture. Check out the Vermont Ski Museum, which was established in 1988 and features displays of collected and preserved ski history of Vermont. Smugglers’ Notch State Park offers a range of scenic hiking trails, climbing, and camping options for visitors, and Gold Brook Covered Bridge is another popular site to visit and take photos at. Also known as “Emily’s Bridge”, supposedly the bridge is haunted by the ghost of a young woman named Emily who was jilted by a lover on her wedding day.

Day Trips Near Stowe

Stowe is a dream come true for those looking to plan a day trip, with so many places to visit nearby. One popular attraction is the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream factory, which is 10 miles south from Stowe in the town of Waterbury. It offers a scenic drive on Route 100, and the 30-minute tour only costs $3 and includes ice cream samples. Burlington is located an hour away from Stowe, and is home to Vermont’s famous Lake Champlain. Take Route 89 East and Route 100 North to get there. If you want to try some of the best old-fashioned apple cider in New England visit Cold Hollow Cider Mill, which is located just a few minutes from Stowe off Route 100. It is open seven days a week and offers free group tours, where participants can try an assortment of fudge, pastries, and jellies.

There are a variety of accommodations in Stowe where you can book a charming rental during your stay, from condos and townhouses to elegant modern homes. Stay just a few miles away from Mount Mansfield in the Upper Mountain Road area, near Topnotch. This area is just three miles from some of the best ski trails in New England and is a few minutes’ drive to Spruce Peak, the Smugglers Notch pass, and Stowe recreation path. Another popular area to stay is the luxurious Stonybrook area, located midway between the village and the mountain. The homes in this area offer breathtaking views, expansive lawns, and quick access to world-class skiing. You can also stay in the heart of Stowe Village, which has a variety of homes that are within walking distance to shops, restaurants, galleries, the grocery store, and the Vermont Ski Museum.

Transportation in Stowe

It is incredibly easy to get around Stowe—you can walk just about anywhere in town because everything is so close together. Once you’re up Mount Mansfield, there are plenty of ski lifts to help you get around. To get up Mount Mansfield, visitors can take the Stowe Mountain Road Shuttle, which is a convenient and reliable shuttle system that transports people up and down until the slopes close at night. Another fun way to get around is via the Gondola Skyride, which runs from 9 to 5 every day from July to mid-October and can take you most of the way up Mansfield. If you’re the outdoorsy type, biking is another great way to get around Stowe, because the main streets don’t get crowded and are clearly routed for bikers’ safety.
