Things to do in New Braunfels
Perhaps the most popular activity in New Braunfels is floating down the Comal River. Rent an inner tube and relax in the cool spring-fed water. You can also try your hand at paddle boarding or canoeing while vacationing in the hot summer. Right along the river is Schlitterbahn Waterpark & Resort which offers some of Texas’ best waterslides and roller coasters. New Braunfels has plenty of culture with museums and historic buildings. New Braunfels’ Conservation Plaza shows what Texas was like in the old days with restored houses, an 1870’s schoolhouse and an old-fashioned saloon. Gruene Hall, Texas’ oldest dance hall, is another important part of Texas history with live music every day. If you happen to visit in November, you have to experience the Wurstfest. This celebration of the town’s German culture has plenty of entertainment and some of the best food around.

New Braunfels is close to being in the center of Texas, meaning it’s not far from several large cities. Just 30 minutes south of the town is San Antonio which has entertainment, shopping and history. Drive 50 minutes north and you’ll be in the laid back town of Austin, which is known for its live music and beautiful lakes. If your wanting to check out the big city, and maybe catch a Dallas Cowboy’s game, Dallas is only a three-hour drive north. About two and a half hours east and you’ll be in Houston, home of the Space Center Houston and close to some of Texas’ best beaches.
