About Jasper
Located just a short drive south of Sam Rayburn Lake, Jasper is a small town in Texas. Things to do in Jasper
Events in Jasper are vast, and depending on when you visit, you might just catch one. Visit in March and enjoy the Azalea Festival at Sandy Creek Park which features a day full of arts, crafts, food, a car show, and a magic show. In April, you’ll be able to catch the Air Show, in July you’ll see the Fourth of July Celebration, and in October the Fall Festival takes over the town. Visit on Thanksgiving weekend and the annual Christmas in the Park at Sandy Creek Park will delight you and the family. The park is decorated with holiday lights, Santa makes an appearance for the kids, and a fireworks display brings the whole night together. Best of all, this event is free to the public! You’ll want to check out the exact dates of all festivals to make sure you don’t miss one during your visit. For a fun day in the sun, head to Sam Rayburn Lake. Technically a reservoir, locals refer to it as a lake, as if offers some of the best fishing, camping, boating, and camping in the state. Spanning over 114,000 acres, this is the largest man made lake in Texas. Its maximum depth is 80 feet and it features 750 miles of shoreline. Enjoy a picnic along the water, launch your boat and head out on the open water, or do some fishing from the shore. Largemouth bass are the most popular fish to catch at Sam Rayburn Lake, and many fishing tournaments are held throughout the year. Get your pontoon and jet ski rentals from Soaring Eagle Boat Rentals at Powell Park on Sam Rayburn and your fishing supplies at Powell Park Marina. While you’re at the lake, you’ll have easy access to Angelina National Forest. One of only four National Forests in Texas, this place has plenty of natural scenery and wildlife to enjoy. Check out the Sawmill Hiking Trail, a 5.5-mile-long trail that leads to an abandoned sawmill site. Catch a glimpse of the hundreds of wildlife species that live in Angelina National Forest, like deer, woodcock, quail, dove, and wild turkey. Head out to this National Forest for an adventure-filled day!

Just a little over two hours south of Jasper is Houston. This lively city in the south of Texas offers visitors a plethora of things to do. The Space Center Houston should be your first stop. Check out a behind the scenes look at the scenes of America’s space program and explore the more than 400 things to do while you’re there. Must-see attractions include the Starship Gallery where most of the Space Center’s artifacts are kept. Take a peek inside the Skylab Trainer Module where astronauts initially trained for their lives in space.
