Things to Do in Lake Keowee

The Lake Keowee area of South Carolina has a multitude of parks that you can explore. For example, you can check out the Keowee-Toxaway State Park, which has two hiking trails in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. Admission to the park is free. You can check out the Jocassee Gorges Visitor Center in the park, which provides maps and history about the Cherokee Indians who used to live in the area. Another park you can visit is Devils Fork State Park, which is in Salem, South Carolina. Devils Fork State Park includes Lake Jocassee, which is a huge lake with several waterfalls and great swimming and fishing spots. Note that this park does charge for admission. Day Trips Near Lake Keowee

Lake Keowee is near several major southern cities, including Atlanta, Charlotte, and Asheville. Atlanta, Georgia is about two hours and 15 minutes away from Lake Keowee. In Atlanta you can see a show at the 4D Funbelievable Theater at the Georgia Aquarium, explore the World of Coca-Cola, and see the animals at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. You can also take a day trip to Charlotte, North Carolina, which is about a two and half hour drive. Walk through the beautiful Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, see the birds at the Carolina Raptor Center, or watch a performance by the Charlotte Ballet. Lastly, you can take a day trip to Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville is approximately an hour and a half drive from Lake Keowee. In Asheville you can walk on the nature trails of the North Carolina Arboretum, take a tour of the iconic Biltmore Estate, and look at the collections at the Asheville Art Museum.
