Rockaway Beach Information
About Rockaway Beach
"Catch a dream" at Oregon's Rockaway Beach, where the mountains meet the sea and you can hear the ocean, smell the sea, and feel the breeze. At Rockaway, there are 7 miles of beach with over 31 access points ready for sandcastle building, flying a kite, beachcoming, or just relaxing. It's the perfect getaway to put your toes in the sand and explore the "Ocean's Edge!" Celebrating over 100 years of history, Rockaway Beach lies on what used to be an isolated beach, and the only access to an area then known as Garibaldi Beach. In 1906, a railroad line opened between Tillamook and Hillsboro, and land that was previously considered worthless was suddenly filling with new settlements. Today, you can visit The Little Red Caboose at The Rockaway Beach Chamber of Commerce office to pay tribute to the town's humble beginnings.
Things to do in Rockaway Beach
From sunrise to sunset, there are plenty of things to see and do during your Rockaway vacation. The hardest part will be deciding what to do first! Of course you can't visit Tillamook County without a visit to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Learn the process behind every creamy spoonful, cheesy bite, and scoop of rich flavor of Tillamook products. You get an inside look starting with the farm and finishing with cheese sampling to your heart's content. For a great photo op, visit Twin Rocks. The rock is 88 feet at its pinnacle and the hole is 35 feet across. From above, the rocks look like a narrow, wedge shape perched on top of a rocky island, but looking from the shore, some people have seen a sea dragon, Indian princess, or Loch Ness monster. What will you see?
