Cannon Beach Information

About Cannon Beach

Located west of Highway 101 in the three-block area between the highway and Pacific Ocean, Cannon Beach is a cute town in Oregon that was named after a small, iron cannon that drifted ashore after the U.S. Navy boat “The Shark” was shipwrecked. Nowadays Cannon Beach is a popular vacation resort that extends four miles along the Pacific Ocean and also has a busy downtown area with restaurants, shops and other attractions that will keep you entertained during your next visit. It doesn’t have any fast food chains within city limits and most locals drive nine miles north to go to the large grocery store, so the town has managed to maintain its sense of character and its unique personality.

Things to Do in Cannon Beach

Enjoy an afternoon of wine tasting at Nehalem Bay Winery, which has been around for more than 30 years. Sign up for a fun culinary class at Evoo Cooking School, and order tapas and drinks at Sweet Basils on Hemlock Street. The downtown area has a variety of cute shoes and boutiques, including Cannon Beach Treasure Company which houses lots of coins, jewelry, antiquities and artifacts. There are also endless recreation options available, since visitors and residents have access to the ocean, forested mountains and the beach. Play a round at Gearhart Golf Links, a grand “auld” links-style golf course that has been open since 1892. Catch a performance at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse, go paragliding, or go for a ride in Seaside Helicopters and see the Oregon coast from a new perspective. Don’t forget to hang out at the beach and see the No.1 attraction: Haystack Rock, which is surrounded by different rock formations.
