Do you like fishing, boating, or camping? Then Indian Lake is the place for you! There's always something going on at the Lake, so it's no wonder it's a favorite getaway for so many families in Ohio. Indian Lake boasts over 30 miles of shoreline ,has numerous islands, and a huge wildlife area. Come in February for the kickoff of the Lake calendar with a Jimmy Buffet weekend. Other fun events include an annual boat show in March, Fourth of July fireworks, and the “Ring of Fire” over Labor Day weekend which celebrates tradition that extends back to the Native American inhabitants of the Indian Lake area. Formerly known as Lewistown Reservoir, Indian Lake, Ohio, was named by European-American settlers after finding several tribes living in the region for both hunting and fishing. It was originally a group of small lakes was later built into a reservoir collecting water for the Sidney Feeder to the Miami and Erie Canal. The now , 5,000-acre Indian Lake offers a wide variety of water activities like boating, fishing, jet-skiing and camping. The nearby park is 800 acres and features two beaches for swimming and sunbathing, and campers can sleep under large mature oak, sycamore and maple trees and gather friends around a campfire for s’mores and laughter.
Things to do in Indian Lake
Indian Lake is now a popular destination for boating and fishing and hosts several major fishing tournaments every year. And it's not just for your summer vacation. In the winter, ice fishing and snowmobiling will keep everyone entertained. The Spend-A-Day Marina is a full service marina with boat rentals available. Once you're all set with your boat, it's fishing time! Indian Lake is well known for its huge bluegills, yellow perch and fair largemouth bass fishing, but the lake’s main draw is its incredible saugeye fishery. The Lake is actually known by many as the best saugeye fishing in all of Ohio. The best places to catch a saugeye are shallow embankments with woody structure, the mouth of the North Fork Great Miami River and the many channels or dredged areas. Areas where deep water meets shallow water are also always good.
