Carlsbad Caverns National Park also has a nightly Bat Flight Program from May through October where you can watch thousands of bats exit the cave at dusk to find food. You can take a day trip to Lubbock, which is a city in Texas that is a little over a three hour drive from Carlsbad Caverns National Park. In Lubbock you can explore the National Ranching Heritage Center, explore the Lubbock Cultural District, or do a wine tasting at one of the many wineries, such as Caprock Winery. A closer day trip that you can go on is to Roswell, New Mexico, which is an hour and 20-minute drive from Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Transportation in Carlsbad Caverns National Park
The Carlsbad Municipal Transit System, or CMTS, has both door-to-door and fixed route services. If you would like door-to-door service, note that it is $2 to make a reservation one day in advanced or $5 if you are requesting service that day. The service runs 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday. The fixed route buses cost $0.50 per person per trip and run from 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
