Strathmere Information
About Strathmere
Strathmere is an “off the beaten path” beach destination located in Cape May County, New Jersey. It’s sandwiched between Ocean City to the north and Sea Isle City in the south. Unlike the popular resort cities along the Jersey Shore, Strathmere isn’t riddled with hotels or boardwalk attractions. It’s the place where you can enjoy the simplest of things in their purest form.
Things to do in Strathmere
The salty ocean breeze and sand between your toes will feel infinitely more exquisite in Strathmere. Of New Jersey’s 130 miles of coastline, Strathmere might be one of the most unadulterated beaches you come across. The Strathmere beach has a section called “Whale Beach,” named so for the whales that would frequent the area. Whale Creek Marina is where you can rent equipment to explore the bay and marshlands. You can spend the day crabbing out on the bay or kayaking in the ocean. Strathmere itself also has a few key points of attraction. The town has a population of less than 200, but a history that traces back to 1881. Twisties is a popular restaurant and bar that used to be a speakeasy in the 1920’s. You can trace their evolution, as well as the development of the town, as you sample fare from their great menu. The Beach House is another popular bayside beach hangout. Sip on drinks and have some snacks as you watch the incredible sunset.

It’s the largest city in Cape May County by area. This resort destination has several attractions popular among tourists. The family-friendly boardwalk is a must. Ocean City’s downtown shopping district also offers plenty to see, with over 100 shops and cafes. You’ll find a lot more activities going on across Ocean City’s 8-mile stretch of sand. Paddle boarding, surfing and skim boarding are but a few of the options for beachgoers. These cities, jam-packed with sights, sounds, culture and history, will feel like an entirely different world from peaceful Strathmere.
