Summer tourists love this city and its historic seaport and it’s easy to see why. There is definitely no shortage of things to do and see in historic Portsmouth.

Things to do in Portsmouth

If you’re traveling with children to Portsmouth, you and your kids are both in luck. For kids, Water Country is the place to go. It is the largest water park in New England, and is located just 3.5 miles from downtown Portsmouth. Your kids can enjoy the slides and water attractions within the park, and you can lounge and relax on your vacation. Then, take them to the American Independence Museum to explore museum and learn about New Hampshire’s role in the American Revolution. The museum even includes an original broadside of the Declaration of Independence and early drafts of the U.S. Constitution. The Prescott Park Arts Festival has taken place every year since 1974. It offers family entertainment through music, art, theater and dance. Located along the banks of the Piscataqua River, Prescott Park is set on 3.5 acres and beckons locals and visitors to visit, especially in the summer months when entertainment is ongoing. Breweries in the Portsmouth area are some of the best places to go to take in the atmosphere of this seaport city. Red Hook, a nationally recognized and loved brewery, has its annual Hookfest at the brewery every year in August, where live music and Red Hook beer are just the beginning of what the festival offers. The Portsmouth Brewery offers flights of its own beers, which include unique ales like its Killer B that’s made with 120 lbs. of honey. Liars’ Bench is a brand new brewery that opened just this summer. Its owners are passionate about every ingredient that goes into making each beer. Try a tasting flight of each beer and see for yourself!

A plethora of restaurants and shops dot the town’s boardwalk, so there is always a place to beat the heat if you don’t want to slip into the water.
